Hojae Bae:
Dr. Bae received his Bachelor’s degree in Genetic Engineering, Master’s degree in Bioengineering from Korea University and Ph.D. in Food Technology from Clemson University. His doctoral dissertation in Gelatin-nanoclay composite material has been published in several major scientific journals and International Patent (World Intellectual Property Organization). In addition, his Masters dissertation in developing pharmaceutical hard capsule formulation using various polysaccharide has been published in major scientific journal and International Patent (World Intellectual Property Organization). With Dr. Bae’s extensive knowledge and experience in natural polymers, he is currently working on developing controlled microarchitechture for engineered tissue to direct tissue morphogenesis and cell behavior for tissue engineering applications in the lab. With his in depth knowledge regarding biopolymer based hydrogel, he has been investigating on how to apply/modify biopolymer material for tissue engineering. Dr.Bae’s dedication to this project brought a great deal of energy and enthusiasm the group. The cellular environment plays an integral role in tissue function. Controlling the microarchitecture in engineered tissues can direct tissue morphogenesis, with the resultant cell behavior highly dependent on the construct’s mechanical, binding, degradation and geometrical properties. Dr. Bae’s studies include developing new strategies to control cell behavior for engineered tissues. He will also work on developing tunable photopatternable hydrogels for creating microengineered tissues. Dr. Bae’s controlled experiments will explore controlling the cell behavior, such as stem cell differentiation or 3D cellular migration by tuning the hydrogel properties.
